Complete the story – using Past Tense
Yesterday, I (have) a great time with my family because it (be) my mom’s birthday. My dad (say) that he (want) to (held) a small party for her. So we (not mention) anything about her birthday in front of her. My dad also (call) our relatives and my mom’s best friends and (tell) them our top secret party. They (agree) and (want) to help us to make this to be an amazing memory for her.
My mom (not notice) her birthday because she (be) so busy to complete her job before its upcomming deadline. In the afternoon, my dad (take) me to my mom’s favorite fashion shop and (buy) a very beautiful and luxurious dress for her. My aunt – Kaya (cook) a lot of special dishes at her home and then (take) them to mine.
When we (get) home from the shop, my sister (decorate) the birthday cake that she (make) it herself. It (look) delicious and (smell) so good. My brother – in – law (help) my uncle to (decorate) our garden with colorful lights, balloons and flowers.
Suddenly, my mom (call) and (announce) that she (will come) home late because she (want) to finish her job at work. We (be) a little confused at first. We (not be) sure when she (will go) home.
It was 7 p.m., my dad (try) to call my mom but she (not pick) up the phone. We (be) really sad. Suddenly, I (hear) my mom’s car horn. My dad (tell) everybody (keep) silent and (hide) in the garden. And then, he (go) out to help my mom with her bag filled with documents. My mom (ask) why he (not turn) on the lights, house (be) so dark and my dad (say): “The power is cut”. My mom (say) that she finally (finish) her work and she (need) a rest with family. My dad (smile) and (take) her to the garden. And “boom”, the lights (be) on and we (show) up in front of her and (sing) out loud the birthday song for our beautiful and kind woman. I (remember) her surprised look and the tears in her eyes. She (start) crying and (fell) into our embrace – that (be) love’s embrace.
Then my dad (give) her our gift. When my mom (change) her dress, my aunt and sister (reheat) the food. Ten minutes later, my mom (go) down and at that moment, she (be) the most glamorous woman in this world.
We had a great dinner, my aunt (share) some silly stories of my mom when she (be) a young girl, we (laugh) a lot. After that, I (play) a song on my cello to congratulate my mom’s birthday. My dad (ask) her for a dance, my sister and brother – in – law, my aunt with my uncle joined them too.
Suddenly, someone knocked the door and we wondered who came at this time because it was quite late. It was Brenda and Caroline, my mom’s best friends. My dad (invite) them to the party but they (reply) that they (may not come) because of their works. What a surprise! But they looked terrible and Brenda said that she wanted to make a surprise not only for my mom but also for my dad. However, their car (break) down on the road and phones (run) out of battery. They had to ask stranger for a ride after a long time waiting on the road. That was why they came so late.
My mom (hug) them and said thank to everyone. And she cried again but we all knew that they were tears of joy and happiness.
